Swoon Editions – Milly

Swoon Editions asked me to have a little play with one of their chairs, the very cute Milly. The challenge was to style and shoot the chair in my own way, and I think it demonstrates how Milly is a blank canvas; she can be dressed up or down and sits well with some old classics as well as new designs. The shape is reminiscent of midcentury modern furniture, but she has upholstery details from further back with the Oatmeal linen studded with nailheads on the back of the chair.Milly_Swoon_Editions_Side_View

I’ve styled Milly with a combination of vintage and contemporary pieces that I’ve collected over the years. The table next to Milly is the smallest table from my set of classic Ercol that amazingly a neighbour didn’t want! The throw is a bright knitted patchwork by Katie Mawson.

To go with the throw and to mix the colours and textures I made a cushion from two off cuts from other projects. The velvet side is Designers Guild and the patterned side is a tana lawn Liberty Print dress fabric from a couple of years ago.

The glass vases are vintage Czech Glass by Sklo Union. I’ve picked them up from Ebay when they were just a few pounds or from vintage fairs. The Amber colour goes well with the vintage Marimekko fabric I had stretched onto a canvas.

Milly is a petite chair which actually makes her very useful. Over the holidays she was moved from room to room depending on where people were. She’d equally be at home in the corner of a kitchen or a bedroom. In my home she’s found her spot in the livingroom. Swoon specialise in limited editions so if you want her in Oatmeal pictured here you’ll have to act fast!
